Argentia from Zimbabwe use one of the country's finest natural assets to create their silver sculptures. Each of these small sculptures is designed by Ashley Ponter and sculpted by Smart Masango, a former leather craftsman and telephone operator from Guruve. In 1982 Smart began to sculpt animals, starting with a tortoise and moving on to the big five. Such is his attention to detail that in order to get the proportions of his first pangolin perfect, he lived with one for three months! Their works are heirlooms to treasure however, as Argentia have been forced to halt creation earlier this year due to the current economic climate in Zimbabwe. |
