Donovan Roebert is a recluse who lives with his wife and daughter on the east coast of the Cape province and currently paints under his African name "Khehla" which means 'a man who is approaching his senior years'. He uses fabric paints on thick cotton and makes a secret mixture of pigments, silicones and adhesives for the black detail on the artworks. He calls these his "leaded fabric" pictures as they are intended to give the impression of the vibrant play of light on stained glass windows.
