John Forbes was born in Zimbabwe and now lives in the small coastal village of Vermont, up the east coast of South Africa from Cape Town.  Before leaving Zimbabwe, he regularly had work accepted at the National Gallery, and now he exhibits mainly in local galleries and from his home.  All his inspiration comes from the nature and wonder of Africa, and this series depicts his beloved Overberg, which is awesome in its scale of grandeur and space.  John paints what he sees, but he is very happy for viewers to interpret his work differently and see it through their own perspective and experience.
