Born in South Africa, Leslie Johnson studied Graphic Art before working in advertising for 14 years.  She has exhibited regularly in group exhibitions in Zimbabwe and Johannesburg since 1965, and has also held seven one-man exhibitions.  In 1995 her daughter designed a game lodge in the Chimanimani Mountains on the eastern border of Zimbabwe; her husband built it, and all the artistic finishes, floors, wall hangings, fabrics and décor were implemented  by Leslie. She exhibited her work in the Lodge from its opening in 1997 until they were forced out of business by the Zimbabwean Government in 2004.  Leslie now works out of Harare, and continues to paint for both a local and international market.  Last year she had a solo show on the Isle of Wight.  Her work is included in private collections in the UK, USA, Australia, Germany, Sweden, RSA and Zimbabwe.
