Unlike her husband David, Phyllipa Marrian was brought up in Africa. and only came to England after school to study art. While here she won the prestigious Windsor and Newton Young Artist of the Year award. She then returned to Kenya, where she has painted ever since. Phyllipa has travelled far and wide through North Africa, India and the Arab states, and it is a fusion of these cultures that interests her the most. Often depicting the tribes and the people she encounters on her travels, Phyllipa's work has a calm and mystical aura about it.
