Trayci Tompkins is a self-taught, full time ceramic artist working from her studio at her home in Hilton, KwaZulu-Natal. Trayci has explored the jungles of South America and worked with potters in Indonesia, as well as learned the Raku method of firing from the Japanese, and now combines it with local ethnic practices of pit firing. The results are her uniquely beautiful smoke fired pots, each with their own grey overtones depending on the wood shavings used and a rare pinky hue to some caused by exploding salt! And as well as her own original pots, she produces with Albert a range of earthenware and stoneware functional ceramics, each with their own quirky style. |
